Essential Spring Tasks for Your Terrace

After winter, it’s important to clean your terrace and assess whether the surface has suffered any damage from the cold – whether it’s warped or otherwise worn. A representative from Kesko Senukai Digital recommends taking the time in spring to refresh wooden decking by oiling or repainting it.

Another must-do task: getting your outdoor furniture ready for use. A simple wipe-down with a damp cloth is often enough, but wooden furniture should be re-treated with oil or varnish to protect against moisture and sun. Don’t forget to inspect metal furniture as well – if rust has appeared, anti-corrosion paint or protective sprays can help. Even outdoor cushions and fabrics can be treated with water-repellent products to prolong their durability.

It’s also a good time to evaluate the health of perennial plants on the terrace. Did they survive the winter? Do they need extra care? And before the outdoor season begins, be sure to check that your terrace lighting is working – and safe.

Terrace Design Trends 2025

If a deeper refresh is needed or you're planning to build a new terrace altogether, it’s worth exploring the top trends for 2025. According to experts, this year’s key themes are simplicity, natural aesthetics, sustainability, and functionality. People are leaning towards materials like wood, stone, and ceramics for their natural look and environmental friendliness. Composite materials are also on the rise – long-lasting and low-maintenance.

When it comes to furniture, modular sofas and tables are increasingly popular for their practicality and style. Perennial plants like ornamental grasses, lavender, sedges, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, and thuja are also in demand. Climbing plants – such as clematis, ivy, or grapevines – along with colorful seasonal flowers like petunias, geraniums, lobelias, or verbenas, add charm and vitality to outdoor spaces.

Terrace design now favors light, natural colors paired with vibrant accessories like cushions, lanterns, and decor that enhance warmth and personality. As Kesko Senukai Digital puts it: “This year’s terrace trends encourage creating cozy, eco-friendly, and personal spaces.”

Where Shoppers Don’t Hold Back

Retailers report that customers can’t imagine a terrace without a grill, hot tub, or inflatable pool. However, even more attention is given to high-quality decking and durable outdoor furniture – areas where people are willing to spend more, even turning to installment payments when needed.

“During spring, customers most often use financing for seasonal items and recreational goods,” says a Kesko Senukai Digital representative. “This includes garden tools, outdoor furniture, grills, and even bikes.”

Financing Trends: From Terraces to Solar Panels

Neringa Dulkinaitė, Head of Sales for the Vilnius region at Inbank, notes that April is consistently a peak month for sales: “Spring always sees a sharp rise in garden and outdoor purchases – from lawnmowers to grills and furniture. Warmer weather prompts home improvement projects, and larger purchases increase accordingly. This year, seasonal shopping even started earlier, in March, likely due to the early arrival of spring and favorable weather conditions.”

For customers already eyeing specific items like terrace boards or furniture, Inbank recommends checking if sellers offer installment plans – many seasonal goods can be purchased without additional cost. With financing limits ranging from €100 to €10,000, even major renovation projects can be budgeted with ease.

Dulkinaitė also notes another trend: “Urban customers are more likely to use financing for smart and sustainable technologies like solar panels or EV chargers. Meanwhile, people in rural areas prefer renovation loans or consumer credit for broader home improvements.”

This reflects differing priorities – city dwellers invest in technology and sustainability, while rural consumers focus on comfort and quality of life at home.
