Where Do Lithuanians Go?

The main holiday rush happens in late June and July, coinciding with school vacations, when families are eager to take a break from daily routines. While August is slightly less active, September sees strong demand, especially among those who prefer more peaceful travel. "People in the Baltic countries often travel during the 'shoulder season' — May or September–October — just before or after peak season," explains Eglė Grašytė, Head of the travel agency AirGuru.

Top vacation destinations still include Turkey, Greece (especially Crete and Rhodes), Spain, and Montenegro, with Albania gaining popularity as well.

Holiday Budgets Are Growing

Holiday costs typically depend on the destination, season, and level of comfort — such as hotel category and meal plans. Grašytė notes that a week-long trip for a family of three costs around €2000–3000, and €2500–4000 for a family of four. "Couples can manage with around €1500 or less, but increasingly, people are opting for higher-end experiences — unique hotels or even private tours. In those cases, a vacation for two can cost €3000 or more."

Compared to 2023 and 2024, travel prices are rising about 10% each year — not only due to inflation, but also because travelers want better services. "Rising costs are linked to changing consumer behavior — Lithuanians are prioritizing comfort. Flights are also more expensive, especially to popular destinations during summer. While it’s still possible to find budget-friendly offers, prices in well-loved resorts are trending upward," Grašytė adds.

Travel on Installments Is Gaining Traction

More people are now paying for their summer trips via installment financing, especially when traveling with family or booking more expensive vacations. "Being able to split costs into manageable payments lets people travel without delay. We see that customers view this as a flexible and convenient solution," Grašytė explains.

Neringa Dulkinaitė, Head of Sales for the Vilnius region at Inbank, agrees. According to her, interest in installment payments for vacations is steadily growing each year: "This is due to changing consumer habits and the increasing number of travel agencies offering installment options. This financing model is especially relevant for last-minute travel when people want to go immediately but haven’t saved enough. Installments allow them to book now and spread the cost over several months."

Who’s Booking Travel with Financing?

According to Dulkinaitė, the average travel installment loan ranges from €1000 to €1500 — and this average is growing each year: "This reflects both rising trip prices and more trust in this payment option. Family vacation packages are also increasingly common."

Inbank data shows that installment-based travel is most popular among people aged 26–40. Notably, women use this service twice as often as men, making up around 64% of users. While most clients are from major cities like Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipėda, the trend is expanding into regional areas. The busiest period for installment-based travel is June and July — the height of vacation season.

What Should You Consider?

For those thinking about financing their summer holidays, Dulkinaitė advises evaluating your financial situation first: "After the vacation ends, payment obligations will remain. It’s important that these don’t overshadow your enjoyment." According to the Bank of Lithuania’s recommendations, your total financial commitments should not exceed 40% of your monthly net income.

She also advises checking the reliability of the travel provider — especially if the trip is planned for the future: "Always choose licensed, reputable agencies and read the contract carefully before signing. Emotional decisions can cloud financial reality, so take the time to assess both your budget and desires."

“All-Inclusive” Still Rules

Despite growing interest in tailor-made travel, "all-inclusive" packages remain the top choice for families and travelers who value peace of mind, clear budgeting, and comfort. "Lithuanians choose these packages because they want to relax, knowing that most of their expenses are already covered," says Grašytė.

Meanwhile, travelers seeking more authentic experiences often opt for apartments with breakfast included or plan their own sightseeing activities rather than relying on hotel services.
